Here, the OU Hockey team walks in the 2008 Homecoming Parade.

Trying to bring attention to their club sport, the boys are an example of Conflict theory of Stratification. They are using their dominant status as college hockey players to advance their own interests by walking, cheering and advertising in the parade to gain more popularity in the OU campus and Athens community. Gaining popularity means better ticket sales, and a chance for the sport of hockey to make a better name for itself not only at OU, but in the American sports world as well.

It is also an example of upward mobility, once they gain the community support needed they have a better chance to achieve their goals.

October 11 New Hockey Season

My daughter has played hockey since she was four. She’s been on a variety of teams and loves the sport. Last year she wasn’t able to play due to shoulder surgery. This year she is back and it’s a new team. They practice at the same rink but there’s new players, new coaches, new jerseys, new team name and most importantly a new team attitude. This will be her final year and I hope it’s a good one! My husband has a sports lens and he took this shot as well as over another 100 during the game.
